Traditional 'Bonderam' at Malar, Divar

Traditional ‘Bonderam’ (sort of flags festival) celebrated at Malar,
Divar Island on 20th Aug. 2011. Organised by St. Mathias Sports Club.

This is the first time I ever attended ‘Bonderam’ of Malar.
I think it consists of 4 wards from which four different floats/groups
participate in the parade, starting with traditional flags March with brass band.
The groups were dancing to the tune/songs of H Briton, Remo (O Maria),
Lorna etc
Besides, there was fancy dress competition for both young and old but was
not available to be watched by all. see pic
Our  tiatrist Com.64, also from Divar, dressed as Eunuchs or Hinjra
stole the show as can be seen in the video.

Here are some pics. (see video in the end)

Next Saturday,  there is yet another such but grand festival at the same island at Piedade.
Like everything else in Goa, the festivals too never start on time. There is always a delay of upto 90 minutes or even more. e.g.  at Malar, it was announced at 4pm but actually it started soon after the VIPs like ministers arrived around 5.30pm. luckily it was not raining. it did rain rest of the day though. Piedade too never starts on time

  1. Thank you so much for posting the Bonderam hosted by the Malarkars on 20th August on "YOUTUBE". God bless you for all the good work.

I am a Divarkar living in Delhi but never been for this celebration. Good to see so many of our islanders in the clip you have posted.

A small favour, the Piedade Youth Association - Divar is organizing Bonderam tomorrow (27th Aug)which is supposed to be really grand. Just wondering if you could post something on that too.

Viva Bonderam and God Bless You
    Regards: Julie
